The idea for the Guardians rose out of the ashes of September 11th, when the Twin Tower were attacked in NYC. We donated to the relief effort and instead of buying gifts that year, we made Guardians, mixed media assemblage art figures created out of reclaimed household items. They were small and fit in the top of Christmas stockings, meant to honor and protect loved ones.
Over twenty years later, I’ve made and sold thousands, all created out of recycled materials. Inner strength, Service, Long life - each one is thematic, and represents our collective human experience; Sculptural figures designed as inspirational art for the home.
The World Needs Guardians. I had the honor of showing my work at The Smithsonian Fine Craft show in 2016. I created Guardians of Tolerance & Diversity, Immigration, and Empowerment of the Individual Voice. They all found new homes.
I believe that the world needs Guardians now, more than ever.
I have opened an Etsy shop to make it easy for customers to select a guardian and have it shipped to their doorstep. It has been closed due to health issues but will be open by September. The link is below:
Below is a gallery of Guardians for you to enjoy.
Thank you. Mary
